2007 MIME & EECS INDUSTRY–STUDENT RECEPTION:

REGISTER THIS WEEK!!

 

ALL IME and ME pre-engineering, pro-engineering, and graduate students are invited to attend this year’s EECS & MIME INDUSTRY–STUDENT RECEPTION on Tuesday, February 20, 5:30–8 pm (the evening before the Engineering Career Fair)  in the Kelley Engineering Center. This reception is a great opportunity to meet with members of industry, gain information about a number of different companies, ask questions, network, hand out resumes, etc. The event features a large-group hors d’oeuvres reception in the Kelley Atrium followed by two break-out sessions where you meet with selected companies in smaller groups.

Also, ALL IME and ME students (whether attending the reception or not) are invited to upload a copy of your resume for inclusion in the electronic resume book we’re preparing for industry participants. SME-SPONSORED MOCK INTERVIEWS THIS WEEK

 

Are you interested in brushing up your interview skills before MECOP?  Want to experience an engineering-based interview and get feedback on how you can improve before going in for the real thing? Then the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has an event for you!

 

This week on Tuesday Feb. 13th and Thursday Feb. 15th, SME will be hosting Mock Interviews from 4 pm to 7 pm in Covell Hall.  This event is FREE of charge to all who wish to participate. Time slots are 45 minutes long. Sign up online at http://groups.engr.oregonstate.edu/sme/sign_up/. (If no slots are currently available, be sure to check back periodically for updates on openings.) ME AND IME POLOS—ORDER YOURS TODAY!

 

Attention ME and IME faculty, staff, and students: Order your Mechanical Engineering polo or Industrial & Manufacturing polo today for only $20. These shirts are available in both black and white, with orange embroidery. And you have the option of adding the word “Alumni” under Engineering.

 

Plus, the Mechanical Engineering T-shirts are back! So if you missed out on getting one last fall, place you order today. $10 for a short sleeve and $15 for a long sleeve. Orange print on a black or charcoal shirt.

 

To order your ME Polo and/or T-shirt, go to Covell Hall 118 and fill out an order form. Order deadline is 4 pm on Friday, February 23rd. Please bring exact change, or make your check out to “Pi Tau Sigma.” All shirts will be available for pickup during Dead Week.

Features many events for students, including networking and dining etiquette, an employer panel on resumes, and an alumni panel (all great opportunities to meet with employers!) as well as a wardrobe event featuring $15 interview-appropriate suits. Mon, Feb 12: Engineers Without Borders (EWB) General Meeting. 6-7 pm, Peavy 272. Our presentation for the evening will focus on the current push to turn OSU to 100% "green" renewable energy.  There will be plenty of time for questions at the end and also a chance for you to show your support for the movement, if you so desire. 

 

Mon, Feb 12: SAE Formula Team Meeting. 6 pm, Rogers 132 (SAE shop).

 

Tues, Feb 13: Career Services Mock Interviews. 9 am–4 pm, Career Services Offices. Practice interviewing with experienced recruiters and receive valuable feedback so you can make outstanding connections in your future interviews. To schedule your 30-minute appointment, contact Career Services at 737-4085. Bring your resume to the appointment.

Tues, Feb 13: “Nuclear Power: Prospects for Nuclear Energy in the Navy and the Commercial World. “ Colloquium by Retired 4-Star Admiral Bruce DeMars.  3:30–5 pm, C&E Hall, LaSells Stewart Center.  Free and open to the public. Text on publicity flyer: “The Navy Reactors’ program has shown the world that nuclear power can be safely, with no adverse effects on the public or the environment. While others have stumbled with this challenging technology, the Navy Reactors’ program stands out—in the private sector as well as the public sector–for vision, discipline, and technical excellence.”

Thurs, Feb 15: Center For Teaching and Learning Workshop: Learning Styles & Learning Perspectives 9–11 am, Milam 215. Synopsis:  Research suggests people learn in different ways and understanding these ways of learning can enrich your teaching and improve your students’ success rates. This practical workshop is intended to provide a brief introduction to learning styles or preferences - both yours and your students - and to provide concrete methods for supporting students’ learning styles. Dr. Saunders will introduce Neil Fleming’s VARK Learning Style Test, outline how instructors can begin the process of supporting their learners’ Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic preferences, and provide an opportunity for faculty to reflect on a course they teach by integrating multiple learning paths.

 

Thurs, Feb 15: 2nd  Annual BRANCHING OUT dinner. 6 pm, CH2M HILL Alumni Center. Opportunity for students from underrepresented populations (racial/ethnic minorities, disabled students, gay and lesbian students) to network with, and learn from, employers who are committed to fostering the success of individuals from underrepresented groups in the workplace. Dinner is free for students. Pre-registration required; contact Miranda Smith, Career Services, miranda.smith@oregonstate.edu, for more information.

 

Thurs, Feb 15: ASME Meeting. 6 pm, Rogers 230. Agenda items include: (1) Moerr information about the planned trip Moscow, Idaho, to participate in ASME contests and win $$$; (2) discussion/nomination of next year's ASME officers. Officer positions run for one full year (Spring term thru Winter term) and include President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary.  To nominate someone or run for one of these positions yourself, you must be present at this meeting.  There will be an opportunity for a short nomination speech.   Everyone is encouraged to run for a position. Come and bring your friends!
